11/12 Parent Meeting - Minutes

Posted by LaDonna Sperry at Nov 17, 2008 1:35PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Our Parent meeting began at 710pm.

President Dean Lowry said a few words regarding our current financials especially given the passage of our very important levies! Then Dean asked Coach Carder to say a few words regarding conditioning, etc and the upcoming Florida trip.

Coach Carder covered winter conditioning. I am going to put the sheet he passed out and post it on our website at monarchbaseball.com.

Quick Summary:

Mon and Wednesday: Pitching and Catching conditioning – in the Hitting Building 245p – 530p
Tues and Thursday: Strength Training in the MHS Weight Room 245p – 330p
Tues and Thursday: Hitting in the Hitting Room from 330p to 430pm with Coach Hoehn

These are not mandatory but are strongly recommended. Coach Carder will be checking into alternative options for those athletes who are participating in winter sports.

The Winter Conditioning begins December 1, 2008.

Coach Carder stressed that academic eligibility is determined based on 2nd 9 weeks grades so parents please remind your players.

Coach Carder also reviewed upcoming dates/events:

February 25, 2009 – Pitchers and Catchers practice

March 9, 2009 – Team Tryouts

Players must have their physicals completed by 3/9/2009.

Coach Carder then reviewed the upcoming Florida Spring Training for JV and Varsity. Coach Carder reviewed the two forms of transportation options that we have to Cocoa Beach for consideration.

1. Travel by Air: $38504
2. Travel by Bus: $29622

There is a difference of $8k between the two options. Coach Carder reviewed each scenario and discussed pros and cons. The basic difference is the impact to our players’ time to spend on practices, hitting and games given the amount of travel time. Air would be approx 3 hrs to approx 24hrs for bus.

Parents discussed the options and asked questions regarding times to come home, consideration for separating the teams when they travel for safety and risk minimization. It was mentioned the concern over such a lengthy bus trip especially in light of the Blufton College accident. There was also discussion as to the freshman players and eligibility for florida, etc. Coach Starlling did mention that if they are able, they will try to schedule Freshman games during that week.

Dana Garrett motioned to vote for Flying.
Tom Hotham seconded her motion.

Parents were asked to vote. The vote was unanimous to Fly. 28 in favor. So the JV and Varsity players will be traveling to Florida via plane.

Once the Florida trip transportation was decided. LaDonna Sperry reviewed the Bingo Schedule and reminded parents about scheduling and working their bingos. It was announced that beginning 12/6 the DC will be fulling staffing the Sunday’s that we had previously been giving to the Legion organization. The DC feels that these months will be large financial contributors and the parents for the DC members need to be afforded ample opportunity to work their required bingos to help with the offset of player expenses.

LaDonna also advised the DC parents in attendance that the new Pay to Play fee will be a flat $150. The DC officers reviewed the financials and want to afford every player the opportunity to play baseball. So parents are able to work 2 extra bingos to offset their fee by $100 which puts the fee back to what we are all used to paying. We have asked that parents attempt to schedule those during May 2009 although if the DC needs last minute fill ins we can count those to the additional 2.

There will be another parent meeting for the DC parents in January to review additional details regarding the Florida trip (lodging, etc).

Jeff Gase motioned to adjourn the meeting.
Jim Hodnichak seconded the motion.

The meeting ended at 805pm.
